The figure is almost unchanged from the previous year. Under the 1961 Dowry Prohibition Act, any person who demands a dowry faces up to two years in prison. Each hit gives the player a score, which adds up in the ‘anti-dowry fund’.
Dowry is a sensitive issue in India, in which government must step in and enforce strict rules. Because while bride’s family would do everything in their capacity to make wedding a memorable celebration and satisfy her in-laws, sometime it’s not enough for groom’s family and later bride has to suffer.
